How Far in Advance Should You Book a Babysitter?
Most of us are pretty good at remembering the date of a Christmas party or wedding we’ve been invited to. Remembering to organise someone to look after the kids, though? That’s sometimes a completely different story. It’s one of those things that’s so easy to leave until the last minute, especially when the event is still a few weeks away. November feels like ages away until you realise it’s next week, and December seems to arrive faster every single year. So, how far in advance should you actually book a babysitter? Well there’s no set rule, and it really depends on what you’re booking for. If it’s just a regular Saturday night out, giving yourself a week or two is usually a good starting point. For weddings, special occasions or events where you absolutely need someone on a particular date, we suggest allowing at least two to four weeks if you can. Christmas is a slightly different story, though. It’s worth looking at booking four to six weeks ahead, or even earlier. There are only so many Friday and Saturday nights in November and December, and plenty of other parents will be looking for babysitters on those same dates. Of course, we know life doesn’t always come with four weeks notice! Things can pop up unexpectedly, or plans can change, so even if you’ve left it until the last minute, it’s always worth getting in touch to see who’s available.
