It’s actually a fair question.
You’ve booked a babysitter for the night, the kids go to bed at 7.30, and you’re not planning on being home until 11. So what happens for those next few hours?
Well, your babysitter is still very much on the job.
Once the bedtime routine is finished and everyone is settled, things usually become a lot quieter. Your babysitter might tidy up anything that was used with the kids, put away toys, or clean up after dinner.
But while the house might be quiet, your babysitter is still there and responsible for your little ones.
If someone wakes up after a bad dream, needs the toilet, can’t find their teddy or needs a drink of water, your babysitter is there to help.
For babies and younger children, that might mean following instructions around settling, feeds or checking on them. For older kids, it could mean being available if they wake or need something.
It also means there’s a responsible adult in your home if something unexpected happens. They have your contact details, know how to reach you and have the information they need to look after your littlies until you get home.
That’s really the lovely thing about having a babysitter there. You can head out knowing there’s someone with your littlies who can take care of whatever the night brings.
