Do Families Actually Use Babysitters During the School Holidays?

Yes. Actually, more than ever.

School holidays can feel like they should be slower, more relaxed, maybe even a little fun. And they are… for the first couple of days.

Then the reality of it all kicks in.

Routine goes out the window, the days feel longer, you’re trying to juggle work, meals, activities, and keeping your littlies entertained all at once. You’re busier than during the school term!

So, do families really book babysitters during the holidays?
They do, and not just for big occasions.

We see families booking babysitters during school holidays for all kinds of reasons:
– A few hours to focus on work
– Time to run errands without rushing
– A lunch or dinner out
– An event or special occasion
– Or simply to have a proper break.

It’s simply about having support so the holidays feel more manageable for everyone.

What does a babysitter actually do during school holidays?
Our babysitters don’t just “watch” your children. They come prepared.

That might look like:
– Bringing along age-appropriate activities
– Helping with meals or snacks
– Playing games, crafts, or outdoor time
– Keeping your littlies engaged so the day flows

We also make sure your sitter calls you the day before, arrives a little early, and keeps you updated while you’re out. They will help you feel comfortable from the start.

“I feel a bit guilty booking a babysitter during the holidays…”

This one comes up all the time. And I know that I used to feel this back in the day!

There’s this idea that school holidays should be filled with constant family time. And while that’s lovely in theory, it’s not always realistic.

Taking a few hours for yourself, or getting support when you need it, doesn’t take away from your children’s experience. If anything, it helps you show up more present and patient when you’re back together.

Why booking early really matters

School holidays are one of our busiest times. With more families looking for support, availability can fill quickly, especially around Easter, Christmas, and long weekends.

If you’re thinking about booking a babysitter, even just for a few hours here and there, it’s always a good idea to organise it ahead of time so you have that peace of mind.

If your family could use a little extra support during the upcoming school holidays, we’d love to help.
